Durability starts with the right fit
A reinforced seam cannot compensate for constant strain caused by a tight thigh, short rise or restricted shoulder. Try the garment with the normal base layer. Reach, sit, squat and take a long stride. Look for diagonal pulling or pocket openings that gape.
If the cut is relaxed, resist sizing down solely to get a slimmer look. That can shorten the rise or reduce shoulder room without improving the overall proportions.
Is the fabric too heavy?

EIPNARE analyzed 666 Amazon reviews of its own products dated April 4, 2025 through April 21, 2026. Fit or sizing appeared in 54.8%, pockets in 19.1% and durability issues in 5.6%. These figures do not measure Carhartt.
They show why a durability review should begin with fit and storage. Heavy pocket loads and friction at a poor fit can create wear no brand name can prevent.
Pockets for the role, not the photo
Write down the objects you carry. Test each intended pocket with those objects. A secure phone pocket can be useful; an oversized cargo pocket can swing or press against the thigh while sitting.
Check badge loops and zippers against workplace rules. Avoid carrying sharps or items that should remain in approved containers, regardless of pocket capacity.
First-wash test
After choosing the correct size, follow the exact care label. Compare a photo and measurements before and after washing. Check shrinkage, seam twist, puckering, color transfer and recovery at the knee and waistband.
One wash does not prove long-term life. It can reveal whether a structured fabric works with your laundry routine before you buy a full rotation.
